Assemblymember Blake’s Statement on the Need to Fund Speed Cameras in School Zones to Improve Pedestrian Safety in The Bronx

Safety is our most important responsibility as public officials, especially for the children of our districts. It is utterly irresponsible that the State Senate failed to pass legislation for funding to be renewed for speed cameras in school zones to prevent drivers from speeding in high traffic areas. Reduced speeds will keep our children and pedestrians safe from injuries or fatalities when crossing streets in school zones.

We continue our advocacy for the State Senate to return to Albany so that they reinstate and expand the usage of more speed cameras in school zones. This issue affects children in the 108 schools in our 79th Assembly district. If we can take these critical steps to prevent drivers from speeding, we will save lives.
